Re: CP: Whistle comparison video: Freeman tweaked Generation vs. untweaked Generation vs. Freeman Bluebird

Thanks, Jerry! This is helpful for choosing between models-- it's much easier to compare whistles when they're all played in the same video (environment) and on the same tunes.

Mr.Gumby wrote: Tue Dec 21, 2021 6:47 am The little Generation F is actually a nifty little whistle. See here for example.

I used to be able for the little G but it has been decades since I had the urge to try.
The question is... would it still be "nifty" in my hands as it is in Mary Bergin's? :)

I like both of your workshop pets! (Though I'm not sure if they'd like each other...)

I would think more the shape of little paper dolls with long dresses on, like the kind you would cut out in a string... or gingerbread girls.

Re: Gradual drop at the end : how to do it?

Thanks for the response in trying to help. I'd love to hear your alternative to sudden drop and drop in pitch. Is there something else you had in mind? Please share. Nope; I've not yet found a way to let the sound taper off without the pitch also tapering off (but, not being a very skilled whistler...

Re: Looking for two pieces with backing tracks (preferably MP3)

I'm not certain you're in the right place for advice on this type of music, but I would recommend the vendors of karaoke tracks to get a backing track. I've used Karaoke Version in the past and they seemed fine.

Re: Gradual drop at the end : how to do it?

Just to clarify the effect you're going for-- you're looking for a drop in pitch, and not just an alternative to suddenly cutting off a note, right? (I myself find the abrupt cutoff jarring, but also find the drop in pitch with a gradual taper-off to be undesirable-- it makes it sound like I ran out...

Re: England to US Mail Question

Hard for me to say, as I had problems with USPS in my area pre-pandemic... (I have to send Certified letters often for work, so I think I've nearly seen it all.)

Re: England to US Mail Question

That would be my guess, as well. I find with USPS that the tracking can appear to be "stuck" for several days-- either it'll be on the same update for several days, or it might say "the package is en route to the destination" (which I sometimes worry is postal-speak for "we ...

It's a lot like the starship Enterprise ... except for the warp engines, transporter, phasers, and tribbles. But otherwise very similar. You get the tribbles (growing) when you don't keep your whistle swabbed out... It's a lot like the starship Enterprise ... except for the warp engines, transporte...

Re: Want to Trade Dixon Alto A Traditional Brass Whistle for another alto A

They are no longer made for quite some time now. Dixon currently only sell D whistles and flutes (low and soprano) and one lonely C-model on their website. The aluminium models were a bit easier to play. I have the G in brass and aluminium and the A in aluminium. I think they play fine. They look l...
